Beryllium copper reeds are the best choice when mechanical durability is critical, such as frequent orthogonal or shear forces. Beryllium copper reeds can withstand lateral shear and orthographic forces, while other shielding gaskets are only suitable for orthogonal and vertical compression.
Beryllium copper reeds come in a variety of shapes and can act as shielding or grounding, but do not provide environmental sealing. Beryllium copper reeds are available with a variety of surface coatings to achieve broad electrochemical compatibility with contact metal surfaces.
According to the requirements of EPA and ISO 14000 for beryllium metal, stainless steel finger springs (Figure 3) are also widely used on many equipment. Stainless steel finger springs meet environmental protection requirements and provide shielding performance comparable to beryllium copper finger springs, and the price is similar to beryllium copper finger springs.
Due to the high cost of developing new molds, the promotion of stainless steel finger springs is slow. Stainless steel finger springs are currently available in relatively few shapes.
Combined shielding padding
In addition, two combination shielding pads are available. Its price is only half that of conductive rubber. However, it is limited by relatively simple section shapes.
The first type of liner is a combination extrusion strip of silicone rubber or fluorosilicone rubber with wire mesh (Figure 4). The standard section shape is rectangular or square. When installed, the rubber comes into contact with the outside to provide environmental sealing; The wire mesh faces the electronics on the inside to attenuate electromagnetic waves.
The second is a liner that is oriented Monel wire or aluminum wire vertically embedded in silicone/fluorosilicone rubber. Can be supplied by the shape of the plate strip. The price is significantly lower than that of conductive rubber, and there are no complex profile shapes.
